Apprentice Dental Nurse

Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Apprentice Dental Nurse to join our dental practice. This entry\-level position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and develop essential skills in dental nursing. The role involves supporting dentists and dental hygienists in delivering high\-quality patient care while progressing through a recognised training programme. The successful candidate will be paid during their apprenticeship and will benefit from comprehensive training, mentorship, and career development opportunities. The succesful candidate will work towards a SQA Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 PDA/SVQ in Dental Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assisting dentists during a variety of dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety


• Preparing treatment rooms and sterilising dental instruments in accordance with health and safety standards


• Providing patients with pre\- and post\-treatment advice, ensuring clear communication and reassurance


• Supporting with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records using IT systems


• Ensuring the clinical environment is clean, organised, and compliant with infection control protocols


• Developing knowledge of dental procedures, materials, and equipment through on\-the\-job training


• Upholding high standards of patient care, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times

Qualifications

• Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal


• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively


• A genuine interest in patient care and the dental profession


• Basic IT skills for managing electronic patient records and appointment scheduling


• Previous experience or knowledge of nursing or healthcare is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided


• Ability to work well within a team and follow instructions accurately


• Willingness to undertake recognised dental nursing training programme, which will include assessments and practical evaluations
