APPLIED AI ENGINEER
Location: Milano \- ItalyDepartment: OthersAbout Philogen
Philogen S.p.A. is a biotechnology company dedicated to developing targeted products for the imaging and treatment of life\-threatening diseases, with a strategic focus on oncology. Our mission is to translate cutting\-edge scientific innovation into effective therapies that improve patients’ lives.
Position Overview
AI is changing how software is built: smaller teams can now design, develop, and deploy complete systems end\-to\-end. This is enabling a new class of engineers who combine software engineering, data, and AI to deliver real applications, not just prototypes.
At Philogen, we are building a small, high\-impact team focused on transforming core business processes into production\-grade AI systems. This includes applications used across clinical operations, R\&D, and corporate functions, in a regulated environment.
We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer with 2–3 years of experience, strong coding skills, and a proven track record of shipping real\-world systems, with a strong interest in LLM\-powered applications
What You Will Do
- Build end\-to\-end AI applications: from stakeholder discussions to UI, backend, and deployment
- Develop and deploy LLM\-based systems in production (e.g., agents, automation workflows)
- Design and maintain data pipelines and application backends
- Work across the stack: frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP)
- Contribute to building a shared data and knowledge layer, including structured representations such as knowledge graphs
- Automate and digitalize business processes across Clinical, R\&D, Operations, and Finance
- Ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and compliant in a regulated environment
- 2–3 years of experience building and deploying software in production
- Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript
- Hands\-on experience with LLMs and modern AI systems (e.g., APIs, agents)
- Ability to build full\-stack applications (frontend \+ backend \+ infrastructure)
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar)
- Strong problem\-solving skills and a builder mindset
- High level of daily engagement with modern AI tools like Claude Code and Codex
- Ability to interact with non\-technical stakeholders and translate needs into practical solutions
- Familiarity with the pharmaceutical domain, clinical trials data, or regulated environments is a plus
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
- Strong academic background with international exposure
- The opportunity to build and shape core AI systems, and contribute to applied frontier ML research across both operations and scientific workflows
- A competitive salary package ranging from €50,000 to €70,000, depending on experience and profile
- Direct exposure to leadership and high\-impact projects across the organization
- A fast\-moving, engineering\-driven environment focused on real delivery, not prototypes
