AI-Forward Finance & Project Controller

DataChef is looking for a hands\-on Finance \& Project Controller who wants to truly own Finance and help shape what modern Finance looks like in our AI\-first company.

This isn't a role where you simply process bookkeeping and report what happened last month. We're looking for someone who keeps our financial operation disciplined, keeps projects under control, closes open loops, and keeps asking:

You'll be part of our RevOps pod, working closely with DataChef leadership, project teams and our external accountant.

Your Four Areas of Ownership:

• Finance Operations: keep our financial administration accurate, timely and under control.


• Project Control: connect hours, projects, billing, revenue, margin and cash.


• RevOps \& Execution: connect Finance with sales and delivery, and make sure actions actually get completed.


• Finance Automation \& AI: keep making Finance smarter, faster and more scalable.

Area ①: Finance Operations

You'll own the quality, completeness and timeliness of our financial administration in Exact Online, including:

• Accounts payable and accounts receivable


• Invoicing and collections


• Bank and balance\-sheet reconciliations


• General ledger and supporting administration


• Accruals and period\-end activities


• VAT and recurring Dutch finance obligations


• Monthly, quarterly and year\-end closing


• Cash\-flow visibility and forecasting


• Reliable financial information for management

✰ You don't just assume something has been done. You check, follow through and close the loop.

You'll also own our relationship with our external accountant. We want a confident internal Finance owner who can engage with them on equal footing: making sure they have what they need, asking the right questions, reviewing their work critically, and not simply accepting every recommendation without understanding it.

Area ②: Project Control

DataChef is a professional\-services business, so our financial performance ultimately comes down to the performance of our projects. You'll keep a reliable connection between hours, projects, billing, revenue, margin and cash.

That means you will:

• Monitor whether hours and project information are complete and accurate


• Make sure client invoicing happens correctly and on time


• Monitor budgets, actuals, revenue and margins


• Identify deviations early


• Follow up with project owners when information or actions are missing


• Help management understand where projects are performing well and where intervention is needed

✰ We don't want Finance to tell us six weeks later that a project went wrong. We want Finance to help us see it early enough to act.

Area ③: RevOps \& Execution

You'll be part of our RevOps pod. Finance doesn't operate as an isolated administrative function here: you'll work across sales, partnership, delivery and management to create a reliable flow from opportunity and contract through project delivery, invoicing, collection and profitability.

Expect to work beyond traditional bookkeeping, taking outcomes, breaking them into actions, coordinating the people involved, tracking deadlines and driving things through to completion.

Area ④: Finance Automation \& AI

We're not looking for someone who wants to do Finance exactly as it has always been done.

DataChef has built its own intelligence and automation layer around Exact Online, and we're always looking for ways to eliminate repetitive work, detect issues earlier and improve decision\-making.

You don't need to arrive as an AI expert. We'll give you the opportunity, tools and support to learn, experiment and thrive in an AI\-enabled Finance environment.

What matters is curiosity and a strong belief that AI and automation will reshape Finance. We want someone building a career for where the profession is going, not just for how it has worked in the past.

What we are looking for

You have:

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting or controlling


• ✰ Outstanding written and verbal communication skills


• ✰ Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail


• Strong practical knowledge of Dutch financial administration


• Hands\-on experience with Exact Online


• Experience with month\-end and year\-end closing


• Experience with AP, AR, invoicing and reconciliations


• A good understanding of VAT and recurring Dutch finance obligations


• The ability to understand project economics, including hours, rates, revenue, costs, budgets and margins


• Excellent Dutch and strong professional English

Bonus if you have

• Experience in consulting, IT services, an agency or staffing environment


• Experience working directly with external accountants


• Experience with Basecone

What we offer

• €4,500 to €5,500 gross per month, full\-time equivalent based on 40 hours per week


• Actual salary for this 24\-hour role: €2,700 to €3,300 gross per month, depending on experience


• Annual bonus based on DataChef's company\-wide performance


• 8% holiday allowance


• 24 hours per week, preferably spread over 4 days
