Shape the future of space missions from concept to orbit

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Technology Engineer to lead mission design and system architecture development for small satellite missions. In this role, you will drive early\-phase technical decision\-making through orbit analysis, payload accommodation, communications link design, and end\-to\-end mission configuration — while pioneering advanced engineering methods including AI\-enabled tools and digital engineering techniques.

You will join our Advanced Missions team, working at the front end of space programs where mission success begins with innovative concepts, rigorous trade\-offs, and forward\-looking technology.

Your Role

As Advanced Technology Engineer, you will lead mission architecture development and system\-level trade studies that guide GomSpace's most ambitious proposals. You will use mature and advanced engineering methods and apply them to real mission challenges across sovereign, defence, and institutional programmes.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Lead mission design and system architecture development, including orbit analysis, payload accommodation, navigation concepts, communications links, and end\-to\-end mission configurations.

  • Perform system\-level trade\-offs and comparative mission analyses to guide early\-phase technical decision\-making.

  • Evaluate and mature advanced engineering methods, including AI\-enabled tools, automation frameworks, and novel modelling or simulation techniques.

  • Support project execution by providing mission trade\-offs, refining architectures as constraints evolve, and ensuring feasibility, robustness, and performance throughout the lifecycle.

  • Drive proposal development and innovation, contributing mission concepts, trade studies, and value propositions while scouting and applying new techniques such as AI/ML optimisation, hybrid simulation, design\-space exploration, and digital engineering tools.
What Success Looks Like

In the initial phase, success means:

  • Integrating into the Advanced Mission BU and establishing working relationships with engineering teams in Aalborg.

  • Delivering your first mission architecture trade study and contributing to at least one active proposal.

  • Demonstrating clear and effective communication of trade\-off results to both technical and non\-technical stakeholders.
Over time, you will be recognised for establishing and maintaining a reusable mission design toolchain — including AI/ML\-enabled methods — and for leading end\-to\-end mission design that strengthens GomSpace's competitive position in institutional and defence markets.

What You Bring

You are a mission designer and systems architect with strong experience in early\-phase spacecraft mission development, comfortable working at the intersection of technical depth and strategic decision\-making.

You likely bring:

  • An MSc or PhD in Aerospace/Systems Engineering, Astrodynamics, or a related field.

  • 3–5\+ years of experience in mission design, system architecture, or spacecraft systems engineering.

  • Experience with orbit analysis, link budgets, payload accommodation, and trade studies.

  • Proficiency in mission analysis tools (STK, GMAT, or similar).

  • Familiarity with AI/ML techniques, automation frameworks, or digital engineering tools.

  • Experience with proposal writing and bid support is a strong plus.

  • Exposure to ESA/ECSS project lifecycle phases is highly valued.
Who You Are

You bring clarity to early\-phase ambiguity and rigour to complex trade\-offs. You are analytical, creative, and driven by the challenge of turning mission concepts into viable architectures.

You are known for:

  • Customer focus – ensuring focus on customer’s success.

  • Execution discipline – ensuring commitments are met in demanding environments.

  • Curiosity and initiative — actively scouting and applying new methods to push the boundaries of mission design.

  • Analytical depth — combining strong technical fundamentals with creative problem\-solving.

  • Collaborative communication — bridging technical complexity with stakeholder needs.

  • True leadership — taking ownership of your domain and acting with integrity.

  • Comfort with ambiguity — thriving in early\-phase environments where requirements evolve and decisions shape outcomes.
Why Join Us

You will play a key role in shaping future space missions at their most decisive stage. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with leading institutional customers, influence mission architectures from the start, and contribute to programs with long\-term strategic impact.
