Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Gastroenterology and Hepatology
We’re looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our Gastroenterology and Hepatology team at the Royal Stoke site. You’ll help deliver a high\-quality clinical pharmacy service to high\-acuity and complex patients across our Gastroenterology and Hepatology inpatient ward and JAG accredited endoscopy units at Royal Stoke, County Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre. You will also provide expert advice to the inflammatory bowel disease and hepatitis MDT to support our outpatient cohort.
You’ll work closely with pharmacy colleagues and multidisciplinary team members, with opportunities for education, development, research and networking. You will also train and support the development of trainee and junior pharmacists within the gastroenterology rotation.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience of delivering evidence\-based, cost effective care
- Is able to support team development
- Has a passion for gastroenterology and hepatology medicine, and thrives in a fast\-paced clinical environment
Prioritise and review high\-risk patients (e.g. those with epilepsy, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease), ensuring their medicines are prescribed and administered within a timely manner
Utilise your independent prescribing skills daily, working within your scope of practice
Provide prescribing support for complex medicines e.g. aminophylline, vancomycin
Support patient flow with mechanisms for obtaining discharge medicines both in and out of hours
Review adverse incidents and take appropriate action to reduce future risk
Review and develop guidelines and PGDs.
Line manage and train and develop junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists
Work with the Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Endoscopy on the strategic development of the clinical pharmacy service to the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy departments.
