Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Advanced Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team within the Emergency Department. Our ED provides high quality care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and it sees and treats around 104,000 patients every year.

The department has full resuscitation facilities, an integrated Urgent Treatment Centre and a separate Paediatric ED. As a service, the ED is dedicated to learning, steering innovation and leading service development in response to patient needs and system demands, enhancing patient experience and supporting the sustainability of the wider healthcare system.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be practicing autonomously as an Advanced Practitioner (AP) to provide patient\-centred quality care. This will encompass the skills of advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis and management within an agreed scope of practice. The post holder will work as part of the ED AP and overall ED multidisciplinary team to provide high\-quality service within ED to all patients attending the department.

The AP will work within the multi\-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE 2017\). The post holder will dedicate 70% of their time to clinical duties and 30% to leadership and management, education and research activities, encompassing the four pillars of advanced practice.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Advanced Practitioners/ Consultant/ Service lead. They will work with a high degree of autonomy and employ complex decision making and demonstrate core practice capabilities and area specific clinical competence.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria


  • Appropriate professional qualification (nursing or allied health professional) that allows registration with the NMC/ HCPC and an Independent non\-medical prescriber.

  • MSc Level in Advanced Practice OR In the process of gaining recognition with the Centre of Advancing Practice via the e\-Portfolio (Supported) Route to demonstrate educational equivalence that all the capabilities of advanced level practice at master’s level (level 7\) have been met.

Desirable criteria


  • Undertaken accredited course or gained digital badge accreditation with NHSE Centre for advancing practice.

  • Completed advanced practice accreditation in speciality e.g. RCEM, RCN, full membership MACP.

Experience

Essential criteria


  • Extensive experience within a relevant clinical specialty, including demonstrable clinical leadership experience.

  • Demonstration of expertise in all 4 pillars of advance practice (Clinical, Leadership \& Management, Research, Education).

  • Evidence of implementing change to promote high quality practice.

Desirable criteria


  • Previous experience in an advanced practice role.

  • Previous experience working as an autonomous practitioner, including involvement in service development

Skills

Essential criteria


  • Demonstrable advanced clinical assessment and history taking skills, with highly developed diagnostic reasoning and decision\-making abilities.

  • Well\-developed leadership, excellent time management, and organisational skills.

  • Evidence of conducting audits and QI projects.

Desirable criteria


  • Evidence of clinical research.
