Kirklees Early Years SEND Support Service (EYSEND) is looking to recruit a creative, enthusiastic and flexible person to become part of our team of Early Years SEND Outreach Professionals.

Kirklees EYSEND provides specialist teaching and learning support for children presenting with Special Educational Needs and or Disabilities within the Early Years Foundation Stage. This role will see you working with children who are accessing the EYFS in mainstream school Nurseries or Reception classes across Kirklees.

You will work as part of a specialist team including teachers, practitioners and a range of other professionals to support the learning and development of identified children and where appropriate contribute to a smooth transition of children to their designated local school from other settings.

This job will have a particular focus on supporting children with communication and interaction needs, through the delivery of time limited interventions and modelling strategies to colleagues in mainstream school settings.

You will have an excellent understanding of Early Years SEND processes and the duties linked to the 2014 SEND Code of Practice. You will have worked with children who have SEND and will have a commitment to early identification of need and the planning and delivery of appropriate intervention and support. This job will suit someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, who can work flexibly and responsively and who has a desire to build on their knowledge and understanding of children with SEND. You will also have a desire and a commitment to continuous professional development and be curious about the work you are delivering.

You will be an empathetic, reflective and resilient individual able to work flexibly and responsively, able to manage your time efficiently and work well as part of a team.

The Team

The EYSEND specialist outreach team is a friendly, and supportive team comprising specialist teachers, specialist practitioners and AETAs. We are dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND

The children we support are at the heart of our work. We work collaboratively as a team with other strands, families, children and young people, colleagues across a range of early years settings and with other professionals, such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapists. We provide guidance, advice, training and support and model best practice to mainstream settings, to enhance the support of the children in their care to help them thrive.

The Role

As an Advanced Educational Teaching Assistant, you will organise, deliver and evaluate the support for EYFS children with identified communication and interaction needs

You will be responsible, under the direction of a specialist teacher, for assessing and identifying need, organising, and providing learning and educational activities, developing skills, supporting integration and transition, securing children’s physical and emotional well\-being, whilst raising self\-esteem and encouraging independence.

Key requirements for this role:

Minimum Level 3 qualification in early learning and childcare

Experience of delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum in mainstream or specialist settings

Experience of planning to meet individual children’s’ needs and an understanding of SMART targets.

Knowledge and understanding of universal inclusive high\-quality practice in the Early Years and experience of delivering this

An ability and desire to model high quality SEND practice and support the upskilling of Early Years Practitioners

Excellent communication skills and an ability to maintain positive professional relationships

A desire to contribute to positive outcomes for children with SEND and an understanding of the flexibility, curiosity and empathy this requires

We are based at Batley Town Hall; however, you will support schools across Kirklees. Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence.
