An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Administrative Team within the Department of Cellular Pathology for a 12\-month fixed term position as an Administrative Manager.

The post is primarily based at the Bexley Wing, St James’s Hospital. The successful candidate will provide a high\-quality administrative service, supporting both the wider department and key education and training functions.

You will require strong IT skills together with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels. The ability to work on your own initiative and as an integral part of a team is essential. Working in a busy environment you should be able to meet deadlines whilst showing great attention to detail and demonstrate excellent organisation skills.

Experience of providing administrative support in a healthcare setting/post graduate medical education environment would be advantageous. A well developed understanding of office based procedures/systems is essential

Cellular Pathology at LTHT is a large, diverse and welcoming department, bringing together biomedical support workers, biomedical scientists, advanced practitioners, anatomical pathology technicians, pathologists, and administrative teams. We process approximately 60,000 surgical cases per year, alongside noncervical cytology, andrology, autopsy, molecular, and specialist pathology services, offering a varied and stimulating working environment.

What you will bring to the role

We are seeking a proactive, organised, and motivated individual with strong administrative skills.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess strong IT skills and be confident using a range of office\-based systems

  • Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

  • Be able to handle and communicate highly complex, sensitive, and confidential information, including situations that may be contentious or emotive

  • Work on their own initiative as well as an integral part of a team

  • Have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy and varied workload

  • Be capable of supporting and coordinating departmental tasks, ensuring workloads are well managed and departmental targets are achieved

  • Provide administrative support for the management of Histopathology registrars in training, contributing to the smooth delivery of education programmes

  • Support the administration of EQA schemes, working closely with the Consultant Pathologist organiser

  • Act as a key point of contact for pathologists participating in national EQA schemes, maintaining professional and effective communication

  • Maintain strict confidentiality, including responsibility for secure handling of participant data within EQA schemes
A commitment to supporting education, training, and continuous improvement within Cellular Pathology is essential. Experience within a healthcare or medical education setting, and knowledge of EQA scheme administration, would be advantageous.
