An established and growing law firm is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join its finance team in Sunderland.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong numerical skills and a keen eye for detail who is looking to build a long-term career within legal finance. The Role
You'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance function, ensuring financial records are maintained accurately while assisting with compliance under the SRA Accounts Rules.
Responsibilities include:
- Processing supplier invoices, credit notes and purchase ledger transactions.
- Managing accounts payable and receivable, including allocating receipts and maintaining debtor records.
- Supporting credit control and professionally following up outstanding payments.
- Posting bank transactions and completing regular bank reconciliations.
- Processing staff expenses and ensuring accurate VAT coding where applicable.
- Maintaining financial records across systems including Leap and Xero.
- Assisting with billing queries and resolving discrepancies.
- Supporting compliance with SRA Accounts Rules, UK GDPR and internal finance controls.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and efficiencies.
- Providing general administrative support to the finance team.
You'll ideally bring:
- Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or in a similar finance role.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using accounting software.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Professional communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- A proactive mindset with an interest in developing a career within legal finance.
- AAT qualified or studying towards an AAT qualification.
- Experience working within a law firm or other professional services environment.
- Knowledge of legal accounting processes or SRA Accounts Rules.
