Salary: approx £30,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (Part-time hours will be considered or 4 day week)
The Opportunity
A growing, independent and well-established accountancy practice based in Taunton, with an additional remote office are looking to recruit an Accounts & Tax Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a brand new position due to the organic growth and expansion of the practice.
This is a varied, all-round role that would suit someone who enjoys working across accounts, tax, bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll. You will work closely with a diverse portfolio of over 400 clients, primarily based across Somerset, while becoming part of a relaxed, family-feel practice that prides itself on delivering exceptional client service.
Reporting directly to the Tax Director, this position offers genuine opportunities for professional development and career progression as the practice continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of annual accounts for a variety of clients, including sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Preparation of Self-Assessment Tax Returns.
- Bookkeeping duties for a diverse client portfolio.
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
- Processing client payrolls and assisting with payroll administration.
- Working with cloud-based accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, and Sage.
- Supporting clients through ongoing Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
- Assisting clients with accounting software queries and day-to-day financial matters.
- Ensuring work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
Essential
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
- Experience with accounts preparation, bookkeeping, VAT returns
- Knowledge of cloud accounting software and payroll
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload independently.
- Experience using QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, and Sage.
- Knowledge of Self-Assessment Tax Returns.
- Understanding of Making Tax Digital requirements.
- Salary up to £30,000- £35,000 per annum.
