A dynamic and growing London-based publishing company with operations in the UK and US is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts & Royalties Assistant to join its Finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the company's growth journey by supporting day-to-day financial operations, royalty processing, and production finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Financial Operations:
- Process supplier invoices accurately and ensure correct coding and authorisation.
- Raise and issue sales invoices in line with contractual terms.
- Perform weekly bank reconciliations for UK accounts.
- Manage weekly payment runs, including preparation and execution.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Support month-end close processes, including stock reconciliations, prepayments, and accrual accounting.
- Review supplier invoices against purchase orders, flagging discrepancies for resolution.
- Track and record production costs within publishing systems.
- Assist in preparing management accounts and ad hoc financial reports as required.
- Administer contracts within publishing systems and upload monthly sales data accurately.
- Produce monthly royalty reports and prepare/distribute royalty statements during payment periods.
- Log, track, and report on sub-rights contracts using publishing systems and accounting software.
- Collaborate with editorial and rights teams to ensure financial data accuracy.
- Maintain data integrity across publishing and finance systems, resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Experience in a bookkeeping or finance assistant role.
- Strong knowledge of royalty recording, processing, and payments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills with confidence liaising across departments.
- Experience in publishing or media environments.
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Xero).
- Hands-on experience with publishing management systems (e.g., BiblioSuite).
- Exposure to multi-currency accounting and cross-border operations (UK/US).
