Accounts & Audit Manager

A long-established accountancy practice is seeking an Accounts & Audit Manager to join its team. The role would suit a qualified ACCA or ACA with significant experience gained within a UK accountancy firm. The role will include up to around 50% audit work.

The ideal candidate will have solid experience of providing accounting, business services, audit and UK taxation services to a varied portfolio of clients, including accounts preparation for limited companies, sole-traders and partnerships.

As Accounts & Audit Manager your responsibilities will include:

• Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as the principal point of contact


• Oversee the delivery of accounts, tax and business advisory services, ensuring work prepared by team members is reviewed and completed to a high standard


• Manage audit assignments from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with auditing standards, firm procedures and regulatory requirements


• Supervise audit fieldwork providing guidance to audit team members; review audit files prepared by team members, identifying key audit and accounting issues and ensure that clients are kept informed about their obligations


• Take a lead role in the planning and monitoring of workflow and the effective financial management of all accounts work within the office


• Have input into fee quotes, budgeting and billing as requested and set time and fee budgets for work within the portfolio


• Review accounts, tax computations and other assignments prepared by team members, identifying technical issues and providing constructive feedback


• Maintain regular contact with clients by telephone, email, letter and in person


• Lead, manage and develop reporting staff, overseeing workflow, reviewing performance, providing coaching and technical support


• Responsibility for appraisals, training plans and the development of junior staff


• To undertake any ad hoc projects as requested by the partners

To be considered for this Accounts & Audit Manager, you will have the following skills experience and attributes:

• ACA or ACCA qualified – exceptional qualified by experience applicants may be considered


• Significant general practice experience in accounts, tax, audit and client portfolio management, gained within a UK accountancy practice environment


• Experience in reviewing the work of others, supervising staff


• A good working knowledge of limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and charities is desirable, together with experience of accounts preparation, corporation tax compliance, client relationship management and, ideally, audit assignments.


• Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential, with the ability to plan effectively, and manage competing priorities


• Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
