Account Director

Liberty Marketing, Cardiff £42,000 base, £50,000 on target, uncapped

Hybrid (one day a week in the office) or remote (UK\-based) with quarterly visits

The Job

You'd own a portfolio of clients and be the person responsible for the relationship, the renewal and the revenue. You'd be the person the client's founder or marketing director calls, and the person inside Liberty who decides what good looks like for that account. Your job is to keep those clients, grow them and be able to say exactly why they're getting value from us.

One of those accounts is a large national organisation, and one of the biggest marketing briefs awarded in the country. It's multi channel and high profile, it needs an Account Director who can hold a senior stakeholder group, keep a large delivery team pointed the right way and report in a way that articulates the value of what we do and the impact we are having on their business.

The agency has a mix of ecommerce, beauty, B2B and financial services clients, an existing team of Account Directors, and a delivery team of SEO, Paid Media, Social, Content and Digital PR specialists doing the work. Your role is to make sure every client is getting the most from their relationship with us: your portfolio grows, and each brand we work with understands clearly why their investment with us is driving real business impact.

What you'd be doing

Being the client's trusted advisor rather than their account handler. That means knowing their business well enough to use digital marketing insights from our work to advise them what to do next. You'd agree expectations with each client, work with our teams to set targets we can be measured against, then keep an eye on scope and delivery to make sure the results follow. You'd run the QSRs and strategy meetings that cover what the client spent, what happened, and what we do next.

Additionally:

  • Grow your portfolio. Find the next piece of work in every account, shape it, price it and present it. Most of our growth comes from clients buying more channels from us, or growing activity that is working, and that's your job to drive.

  • Forecast accurately. Revenue, renewal confidence, churn risk, reported monthly and accurate, so the agency can plan.

  • Run the renewals. Know six months out where every contract stands and what it'll take to exceed client expectations and keep it.

  • Set the standard for what goes in front of a client. Proposals, QSR decks and reports leave your accounts clear, commercially focused and consistent.

  • Work well with the delivery teams. The specialists know their channels, you know the client's business and their goals. Your job is to keep those two things aligned so the work lands.

  • Support new business when it fits. Inbound briefing calls, pitch contribution and shaping opportunities, with ownership agreed on capacity.
Who we think this is
  • You've managed a portfolio of agency clients for five years or more and been judged on retention and growth, as well as client satisfaction.

  • You've probably been at an agency of 20 to 100 people with SEO, paid media, social, content and digital PR on the services list, and you can hold a credible conversation about all of them.

  • You've renewed accounts that were at risk and grown accounts that were flat, and you can tell us how.

  • You've delivered a hard message to a senior client and kept the relationship.

  • You can read a performance dashboard and turn it into a commercial story a non\-marketer will act on.

  • You've worked with clients in at least one of ecommerce, B2B lead generation, beauty and wellbeing, or financial services.
If you're a strong project manager efficient at keeping work moving, this isn't that role. This is a job for someone who wants to figure out how to be the reason a client stays with the agency.

About Liberty

We've been in Cardiff since 2008 and we're one of the largest independent digital agencies in Wales. Our CEO, Gareth, is a true digital marketer who built an agency, and sits on the board of the CIM. Your job will be to help us articulate these great results.

Our values are Accountable, Brave and Curious. In practice this means that you own the outcome, say when something isn't working, and keep looking for a better way to do it.
