Band 6 Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Roving Team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), and we are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and hard working band 6 to join our team.

The Roving Team is a service unique to RIE, operating Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with participation in the existing RIE weekend rota (working one weekend in eight).

The team delivers a flexible Occupational Therapy service across RIE, responding rapidly to clinical areas experiencing the highest demand. Our primary aim is to support and maintain efficient patient flow throughout the hospital.

The Roving Team typically focuses on high priority patients with an anticipated discharge within 2448 hours, although this may vary depending on site pressures. The team can work in any clinical area within RIE that has an established OT service, resulting in a highly varied caseload.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad range of clinical experience, strong core OT skills in assessment and discharge planning and excellent clinical reasoning skills, with the ability to clearly articulate decision making. Excellent communication skills are essential, including confidence in participating in and managing challenging conversations. The role also requires strong time and caseload management skills, the ability to prioritise across multiple teams or hospital wide, and the flexibility to reprioritise often several times in a single day.

The successful candidate will bring a positive outlook and play an active role in helping shape and support the team. They will work closely with the team, to contribute to ongoing service development and help maintain a positive, supportive team environment. Confidence and skill in supervising staff and students are key aspects of this role. Our service offers formal and informal supervision and is committed to supporting growth through active support for CPD and the promotion of innovative practice.
