This is an opportunity for a suitably qualified individual with relevant Biomedical Science experience (such as Advanced Biomedical Support worker) and relevant Biomedical Science qualification (e.g. HND, Foundation level Science Degree), to work in NHS Lothian, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Blood Science Laboratories. This post will enable the Department of Laboratory Medicine to develop a sustainable Blood Science Laboratory model across all hospital sites

The Department of Laboratory Medicine has ambitious training plans to facilitate Blood Science laboratories on all NHS Lothian acute hospital sites and is recruiting staff to undertake these exciting roles with training in Blood Sciences at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine is extensively modernising the Blood Science laboratories and re\-modelling the skill\-mix and training of laboratory staff.

As a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner Healthcare Scientist you will be trained in all aspects of the automated Blood Science laboratories. You may be required, following suitable training, to cover extended day and weekend working. These posts have an initial base at RIE but you may be required to work in the Blood Science Laboratories on other sites. RIE Blood Science Labs are multidisciplinary including Biochemistry, Haematology, Serology and Immunology services giving a wide and exciting repertoire of work.

Working hours are currently 36 per week average including evenings weekends and Public Holidays when suitably trained.
